Some lessons learned from my hobby of building custom keyboards and keyboard peripherals:
- Soldering aviator connectors without clamps is really fiddly
- Coiling cables with a heat gun melts the outer sleeve if you don’t move the gun around at all times. Hairdryers usually work better for this, with less risk of melting the plastic fabric.
- Don’t do it. It’s really hard to get right.
- Purchasing keyboard cables usually end up being a better option, even with aviator connectors
